There’s a lot of buzz about the windy city, especially when it comes to its internationally celebrated music scene as the birthplace of Chicago blues. An elegant and vivacious urban hot spot centered between the coastal metropolises of New York City and Los Angeles, Chicago is home to famed rock sensations such as Ministry, Styx, Wilco, and Cheap Trick.
Now three bad-boy talents from the central downtown frenzy that gives Chicago its heartbeat are drummer Nathan Arling and bassist Adam Arling, and Vermont native and front man Bryan Wilkinson, blasting forward at full speed in alternative rock group PHOTOGRAPH.
While considered the newest addition to a strain of what is casually referred to as immortal rock and roll supremacy, their individual reputations readily precede them. Having been associated with critically acclaimed rock acts such as The Last Vegas, Black Actress, Warrior Soul, and Urge Overkill, PHOTOGRAPH was birthed in early 2014 from a vision of what could be given the musical relations already existing among its members. As for the name, lead vocalist and guitarist Bryan says, “The name PHOTOGRAPH came to mind in a way that it didn’t scream a certain sound or expectation. It had an artistic side to it that would allow for the music to have an identity of its own, rather than the band members maintaing the identity. Photograph can mean anything to anyone, just like the songs can mean anything to anyone.”
PHOTOGRAPH has been acclaimed to the likes of Thin Lizzy, and The Replacements, showering a smooth grunge sound into the airwaves with melodic influence from Johnny Cash, AC/DC, Slade, Coltrane, and even Vivaldi. Their debut record “Beg & Prove” was independently released summer 2015. Mastered by Tony McQuaid, the album features the talent of drummer Hawk Coleman (Velcro Lewis Group) who offered his vocals on “I’m Gone,” as well as incorporating Chicago solo artist Dorian Taj with his precision of keyboard dynamics on “Leave Your Heart With Me” and “Desire.”
Currently in the midst of frequenting the Chicago music scene as a popular headliner for rock venues like Double Door and Schubas, PHOTOGRAPH is gearing up for a busy year ahead of them with performances and more songwriting.
“Beg &Prove” is available on iTunes and Spotify, and 2016 tour dates of the US and Canada will soon be announced.
